At the meeting, held in the Institute of Public Healrth of Serbia “Dr Milan Jovanović Batut” a presentation of further steps in managing contaminated sites, with an aim of reducing their health impact in the exposed population, was made, with an emphasis on the intersectorial cooperation.
On October 24th 2018, in the premises of the Bor Municipality, a meeting was held of representatives of the local self-government with the representatives of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, Serbian Agency for Environment Protection (SEPA), and the Institute of Public Health of Serbia „Dr Milan Jovanović Batut“. Representative of the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) has also attended the meeting, together with representatives from the Mining and Metallurgy Institute Bor and Mining & Smelting Complex Bor,
Strengthening Serbian national capacities and inter-sectorial synergies for safe management of contaminated sites and related hazardous substances to prevent negative impact on human health and the environment
Dr Matić Savićević has chaired the meeting, together with Dr Pusztai, Dr Verica Jovanović and Dr Ljiljana Jovanović. Dr Matić Savićević has greeted the attendees on behalf of the Institute and other participants in the project, pointing out the need of establishing practical synergy in between health and environment sectors.

After the Welcoming word from the Director of the Institute of Public Health of Serbia (IPHS), we were, firstly briefed on the status of the Project Contract with UNEP by Marco Martuzzi. We, then, reached mutual consent on the better effectiveness of the meeting. If we do some re-scheduling of the proposed Agenda, discussing data availability for the next day, and hoping that our perception of a Road map structuring will be clearer, at the end. Three presentations were shown during the 2-day meeting, whose contents will serve as a basis for our further discussion and planning of further steps.
